Leave of Absence
The law prevents schools giving permission for term-time absences, unless there are exceptional circumstances. These could include visiting seriously ill family, attending a close family member's funeral or a family member returning from operations in the Armed Forces. The Department for Education does not class family holidays as exceptional circumstances and we therefore request that holidays are taken outside of term-time.
If there is an exceptional reason for your child missing school, leave of absence forms can be picked up from the school office and should be completed at least four weeks in advance of the absence. If you take a holiday, which is not authorised, by the school, you may be issued with a fine.
If a child is absent either side of a holiday, this absence will also be classed as a holiday and a fine may be issued (unless evidence of illness/other absence is provided).
