Intent:  

At Queen Mary Avenue Infant & Nursery School we want to;

• Model and educate our pupils on how to use technology positively, responsibly and safely.
• Children to take pride in their work and be confident creators, that are inspired and are given opportunities to develop their learning through our broad curriculum.
• For them to be able to participate in real life and memorable experiences that encompass computer science, information technology and digital literacy.
• Promote a safe life-long love of technology by developing our children’s vocabulary and understanding, child's self-esteem, confidence and social skills.
• For pupils to understand that there is always a choice with using technology and as a school we work hard to utilise technology (especially social media) to model positive use, that promotes kindness and honesty.

 

We recognise that technology can allow pupils to share their learning and collaborate to do this in different ways. Staff embed computing across the whole curriculum making learning inventive and accessible.

 

Safe use of equipment is paramount at our school and something regularly spoken about with children. We have an E- Safety Policy that provides guidance for teachers and through carefully planned lessons, children learn about keeping safe and how to use the Internet responsibly.

 

Staying safe at home online, is just as important. Therefore pages like; https://www.saferinternet.org.uk/ are often shared with parents to ensure children are safe at home using equipment too.

 

 

Implementation:

This will be achieved by:

• Providing computing opportunities through our topic based learning of the foundations subjects (Cornerstones).
• Ensuring lessons are carefully planned in each year group to ensure they cover the progression of skills that also builds on prior learning.
• Developing key language that links to computing and the skills necessary to progress.
• Knowledge being built on year on year to deepen the pupils’ understanding of computing.
• Collaborative learning – children working with each other to develop their skills and knowledge

 

Impact:

We encourage our children to enjoy and value the curriculum so that they become confident users of technology. Through quality first teaching the children at QMA will be able to discuss, reflect and appreciate the impact computing has on their day to day lives, learning, development and well-being. They will have a secure knowledge and understanding of technology and its implications due to the continuing changes in society.
