The school’s curriculum is effectively designed to ensure that pupils develop skills, knowledge and understanding in a wide range of subjects. Many subjects are taught through carefully chosen year group topics that effectively engage pupils in their learning. Pupils are given a rich range of experiences, which helps them to develop spiritual, moral, social and cultural awareness.

Curriculum Intent
At Queen Mary Avenue Infant & Nursery School our curriculum is designed to provide opportunities for pupils to:
- Be inspired and develop a lifelong love of learning by participating in real life memorable experiences.
- Develop the skills to read widely and often with fluency, enjoyment and comprehension.
- Build resilience and develop confidence in readiness for the next stage of learning.
- Work hard, taking pride in their achievements and those of their peers.
- Acquire a wide vocabulary and a sound understanding of spoken language.
- Become responsible, kind and honest members of their community.
- Be collaborative and grow alongside others, showing respect.
Implementation
We will achieve this by:
- Ensuring all children have full exposure to carefully planned progressions of knowledge and skills sequenced from Nursery to Year 2.
- Providing a ‘hook’ for each topic which engages and excites learning through memorable real life experiences.
- Selecting engaging texts that link to projects to inspire and engage.
- Developing language through vocabulary rich environments and learning projects.
- Developing collaborative learning by explicitly teaching children how to collaborate and through the provision of varied and frequent opportunities to learn together.
Impact
Through quality first teaching children will have opportunities to develop the knowledge, skills and confidence needed to achieve age related expectations and prepare them for the next stage of their learning journey. Ultimately ALL children will ‘Dream Big, Shine Bright.’
