Intent:

At Queen Mary Avenue Infant & Nursery School it is our intent to provide children with an engaging and stimulating DT curriculum. This is taught through topic based, meaningful lessons in which children have the opportunity to learn through real life memorable experiences.

The curriculum is designed to ensure children become resilient and confident learners through active learning, problem solving and finding answers to questions.

Children are taught to work both collaboratively and independently to design, make and evaluate their own and others products.

Children have opportunities to learn new skills and build upon them throughout school, being able to talk about their learning through the use of specific vocabulary.

 

Implementation:

Design Technology is delivered as part of our topic based cornerstones curriculum. We will achieve our intent by:

Purposeful activities, linked to an overall topic that excite and motivate the children

Carefully planned progression of skills

Opportunities for collaborative learning

Revisiting and building on prior learning

Developing and using specific key vocabulary

Hands on experiences to design and make using different materials and tools

 

Reasoning and explaining their findings to evaluate and analyse

 

Answering questions by investigating and observing

 

Generating success criteria to ensure learning is focused

 

Impact:

Through quality first teaching children will become confident in designing, making and evaluating products. They will be able to think critically, problem solve by trying out ideas and not be easily phased by complications that they may face. They will be able to consider the purpose of technology in everyday life and talk about it using clear vocabulary. They will have the skills to work collaboratively with others.
