Physical Education
Intent:
At Queen Mary Avenue Infant and Nursery school it is our intent to provide our children with an inspiring and engaging PE curriculum. The curriculum is designed around real life active experiences that teach our children to be confident and healthy individuals. Within the culture of our school we encourage our children to ‘Dream Big, Shine Bright’ and we believe that to do this we need to have passion, determination and most importantly self-belief. Our PE curriculum is intended to provide opportunities to embed these qualities through challenging activities that teach the children new skills. It is our aim that all children are physically literate when they leave our school and are competent at d fundamental movement skills. The curriculum also teaches the children to work together collaboratively and introduces them to the idea of teamwork.
Implementation:
We will achieve this by:
Providing our children with active opportunities across the curriculum, where they can practise and apply new skills.
Encouraging our children to make healthy choices but also to teach the children about good health and fitness.
Encouraging our children to work collaboratively together to develop and improve their skills.
Providing opportunities for our children to reflect and evaluate on their learning and performance.
Involving our children in both inter and intra- school competitions where they have opportunities to work as a team and be determined to achieve and win.
Modelling new skills to demonstrate new skills correctly.
Children will be taught new skills across the curriculum and be able to use these skills in a variety of situations.
We will actively assess children in order to provide adequate support and challenge to enable all children to reach their maximum potential.
Involving the wider community in school sports and inviting community clubs to come into school to engage and inspire our children in different sporting activities.
Introducing the children to new vocabulary that has some cross curricular links i.e., science and PSHE.
Impact:
Through our quality first teaching, our pupils will have access to real life active experiences that inspire our children to seek passion and engagement in a variety of sports and activities. Children will be confident and have the self-belief to participate in a variety of sports and activities and be determined to develop their skills through the reflection of individual and group performance. Our curriculum enables our children to have a positive relationship with physical activity and understand it’s importance.
