The provision for pupils with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND) is well matched to their needs. The evaluation of support plans shows that effective strategies are used to ensure that these pupils make good progress.

Intent

At Queen Mary Avenue Infant & Nursery School our SEND provision is designed to provide opportunities for pupils to: 

• Be inspired and develop a lifelong love of learning by participating in real life memorable experiences.  
• Build resilience and develop confidence in readiness for the next stage of learning.  
• Achieve their potential taking pride in their achievements and those of their peers. 
• Communicate in appropriate and relevant ways and acquire key vocabulary.
• Understand and manage their feelings appropriately to become valued members of their community.  
• Be collaborative and grow alongside others, showing respect.

 

Implementation

We will achieve this by:

 

• Creating an inclusive and child-centred environment and ethos.
• Taking a trauma-informed relational approach
• Ensuring SEND children have carefully planned exposure to key knowledge and skills sequenced from Nursery to Year 2.
• Providing a ‘hook’ for each topic which engages and excites learning through memorable real life experiences.
• Developing communication and language through supportive environments.
• Providing opportunities for collaborative learning as appropriate to each child’s needs
• Working alongside parents and wider professionals
• Taking a graduated approach and making reasonable adjustments to ensure that each child receives the necessary support to make progress and achieve their individual potential

 

Impact

Through quality first teaching and reasonable adjustments children will have opportunities to develop the knowledge, skills and confidence needed to make progress and prepare them for the next stage of their learning journey. Ultimately ALL children will ‘Dream Big, Shine Bright.’
